The Democrat Jerk

A no-holds barred look at politics and other assorted nonsense.

Here we are more than two weeks after the election and our friends at PUMA are still spewing the same old tired lies. I'll be posting a top-10 PUMA lies list shortly, but frankly it is hard to narrow it down to just 10. Maybe I'll have to do an AFI type of thing and make the list 100.

Anyway, let's look at one of the "leaders" of the PUMA movement, Riverdaughter. On her blog today, she relates the story of having dinner last night with a colleague and having politics brought up. Of course, she couldn't resist going into a litany of PUMA lies regarding the primaries. Regarding her dinner companion, she said...
He thought it was perfectly OK for Obama to take all of Michigan’s uncommitted delegates and 4 from Hillary to boot, even though it was specifically the theft of Michigan delegates that put him over the top by a mere 17 delegates.
Wow. One of the top dogs in the PUMA movement and she can get something this basic so wrong! Why am I not surprised. All of the PUMA outrage is based on false slights, made-up controversy, pretend corruption, and faux conspiracies.

Riverdaughter isn't picking this figure of 17 out of thin air. It comes from the green paper's accounting of the DNC accounting of delegates. But what she completely misconstrues is the fact that Hillary was behind by only 17 delegates if, and only if, Obama was given zero pledged delegates from the Michigan primary. Hillary wasn't behind 17 after Obama was given delegates out of the "uncommitted" pile. She was behind many more.

Only in the most unfair of situations, where Michigan gives absolutely zero delegates to Obama (not to mention that Florida and Michigan are applied at full strength) does Hillary even close the gap to 17. And while that may be close, it still means she lost! This fact is either lost on PUMAs, conveniently ignored, or willfully twisted. Take your pick.

Here is the Green Papers listing of the Michigan delegates. You can clearly see that Hillary is given 73 pledged delegates, Obama receives zero, and "Uncommitted" receives 84 which is the combination of pledged delegates for "uncommitted" plus super delegates. Again, in this accounting, Obama received no delegates. And this total was used for the national total shown here that lists Hillary behind by "only" 17 delegates.

For Riverdaughter to not be able to grasp this simple math shows why she might have difficulty keeping up in a dinner conversation with her math-whiz colleague from Canada.

Last night on the PUMA "radio show" Conflucians Say, Christina from yestodemocracy.com called in and asked about the double standard coming from the PUMA camp regarding offensive comments. While Riverdaughter herself was calm while saying that she didn't think there was a double standard, she never did answer the question on how Howard Dean, of all people, should be held responsible for everything that is posted on the web. Unfortunately, some of her compatriots like "Gary" were less than diplomatic and simply wanted Christina to go away, which is the general knee-jerk reaction from the PUMAs when they encounter anyone questioning their twisted logic.

Anyway, they all asked for links to supposed comments that Christina was referring to, and when she presented them she was told that they didn't come from the Confluence, which is Riverdaughter's blog. Unfortunately, anyone who reads her site on any regular basis sees all kinds of racist and offensive remarks. But despite their iron fist crackdown to delete any comments that aren't in lock-step with their own views, these offensive remarks, often from their regular contributors, stick around with nary a word said against them.

There are many examples out there, but I'll just give you one in particular to chew on from a regular contributor to Riverdaughter's site.

I hope Dean, Pelosi, Axelrod, Brazile, Oblahma etc all come down with the same “I treated Hillary like Shit Flu” that has taken out Kennedy, Russert, Novak and Bernie Mac.
As my friend’s 5 year old once said “God don’t like ugly!”

While not outwardly a death threat, that is wishing a number of people die, including Barack Obama and expressing glee that some other people have died or gotten gravely ill.

God don't like ugly, indeed.

Is Neil Boortz the biggest moron in political media? I'm beginning to think so. I've never heard his radio show, but his website is a treasure trove of spin, wacked-out ideas, and simple flat-out lies.

Yesterday, he gets into the story of high gasoline prices and rants that the answer is supply and demand. Period. Nothing more. Then in his "Reading Assignments" section he has these three little diddys:

"Why are gas prices so high? Why are the oil companies getting so rich? Why is the situation the same it's been for decades? Charles Krauthammer says it better than anyone else: the answer is supply and demand.

Finally...somebody is laying blame for high gas prices where it belongs: squarely at the feet of the environmental extremists. Steven Milloy makes note of one such Congresswoman who dares to speak the truth.

Qatar's energy minister says the price of a barrel of oil would drop $15 if politicians would just shut up. He says it's worry, fear and speculation that's driving up the price...and he's right. "

So which is it Boortz? Supply and demand, environmental extremists, or gum-flapping politicians? Can you be any more contradictory? And in the midst of contradicting himself over and over, he doesn't bother to add that perhaps collusion within the oil industry might be party responsible for high gas prices and the largest corporate profits in the history of the planet. What a boob.

You can read the whole mess here: http://boortz.com/nuze/200604/04282006.html
